The President of India,H. E. Shrimathi Pratibha Devisingh Patil arrived Agatti Island the Gateway of Lakshadweep on 24th December, 2009 for a 3 days visit to the smallest Union Territory of India Lakshadweep in an Indian Air Force aircraft.On arrival at Agatti Airport, the Hon'ble President and entourage was received by Shri. J.K. Dadoo, IAS, Administrator,Public representatives and Senior Officers followed by a Guard of Honour by IRBn and Lakshadweep Police. After a brief rest in VVIP Lounge, the Hon'ble President of India left for Kavaratti the Capital of Lakshadweep by the Indian Air Force Helicopter accompanied by the Administrator of Union Territory of Lakshadweep. At Kavaratti, Hon'ble Member of Parliament from Lakshadweep, Adv. Hamdullah Sayeed, and Shri. R. P. Pal, IAS, Collector-cum-Development Commissioner, received the Hon'ble President of India at the Helipad. Shri. Marnya Ete, IAS, MD, LDCL, Shri. A. Jalaludheen Koya, President-cum-Chief Counsellor, other Public Representatives and Senior Officers of the Administration were present at helipad to receive the Hon'ble President. Later Administrator introduced the Officers, Public Representatives.and others present at the Helipad to receive the Hon'ble President. After reception at Helipad, the Hon'ble President left for Indira Gandhi Hospital for the inauguration of the modernized ICU. On arrival at IGH, Dr. K. P. Hamzakoya, DMHS received the Hon'ble President with flower bouquet and Administrator along with DMHS led the Hon'ble President to ICU for inauguration. The modernized Intensive Care Unit was inaugurated by pressing a remote button and unveiling the plaque by the Hon'ble President of India. Hon'ble President keenly listened to the briefing by Dr. Anwar, Chief Medical Officer about the facilities and working of ICU.

Airport at 12 o’clock noon on 24th December, 2009.Administrator presented a bouquet to Hon’ ble President when she stepped down from the aircraft. Immediately on arrival Hon’ble President was accorded a guard of honor by the Lakshadweep Police, India Reserve Battalion, and Lakshadweep Police Band and Home Guard personnel at Agatti Airport. After resting a while at Airport Reserved Lounge Hon’ble President left for Kavaratti, the Head Quarters Island by Indian Air force Helicopter. After attending scheduled programmes at Kavaratti Hon’ble president reached Bangaram, the International Tourist Resort of Lakshadweep at about 5 PM. The Hon'ble President of India also found time to meet Public who were present at Indira Gandhi Hospital and chat with a little girl and enquired her name and welfare and left for Secretariat for the inauguration of SWAN. At Secretariat, Administrator and Senior Officers received the Hon'ble President of India and led to the Conference Hall. State Wide Area Network ( SWAN) was inaugurated by pressing a button by the Hon'ble President of India and Her Excellency interacted with the Sub Divisional Officer at Andrott, and Deputy Collectors at Agatti and Minicoy through Video Conferencing.

In her inaugural address, Hon'ble President of India assured the people of Lakshadweep that their interest and welfare is important and they would receive support from Government of India. Earlier, Shri. J. K. Dadoo, IAS, Administrator, Lakshadweep welcomed the Hon'ble President of India, Hon'ble Spouse of the President, Distinguished Dignitaries and others in the function. Shri. R. P. Pal, IAS, Collector-cum-Development Commissioner proposed vote of thanks. On completion of the inaugural function of SWAN, Hon'ble President left for Lakshadweep House for lunch and rest. On arrival at Lakshadweep House, the Hon'ble President of India was received by Mrs. Nita Dadoo, wife of the Administrator with a flower bouquet. After lunch and rest, Hon'ble President of India, H. E. Shrimati Pratibha Devisingh Patil left for Bangaram by evening.
